The Troy Turkey Trot is one of the oldest (since 1916 when it had 6 runners) and biggest (this year it smashed the previous registration record with 8,290 participants!) road races in the United States (the 12th oldest to be exact). The Troy Turkey Trot allowed registrants to donate to local charities when they registered online via the SportsSignup road race registration system. This year the race was sponsoring three local charities including the Troy Boys and Girls Club, the Lansingburgh Boys and Girls Club and the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York.  22% of the registrants donated to this year’s designated non-profits for a grand total of $12,177 to the three charities!

Our CEO, Anthony Bruno, was working a booth at the race and noticed that quite a few racers were happy to not only donate to one charity, but actually give a little bit to all three! SportsSignup also presented a check for $10,000 to the city of Troy.

Mike Manupella, executive director of the Lansingburgh Boys and Girls Club, said the money his organization received from the Troy Turkey Trot Donation will allow the club to replenish its arts and crafts supplies and help bring in new computers into the clubs homework room.

Sharon Smith, executive Director of the Troy Boys and Girls Club, said she was “thrilled” to be the hometown charity again during the race’s 65th year and said the donations will do well to help needy families in the area.

“We are very proud to be a part of it. The money will go a long way to help us do our job. There are a lot of hungry people in our community. It is our job to help feed those people. This is the type of support that makes that possible,” said Mark Quandt, Regional Food bank Executive Director.

It’s that time of the year when we all give thanks for all the good things we have in our lives and remember just how lucky we are to be surrounded by our families and friends, to have a safe and warm place to sleep at night and delicious food waiting on the table. Everyone deserves those blessings and more and SportsSignup was proud to partner with the Troy Turkey Trot this year and give back to these three organizations that do so much good for our community.
